KAMPALA-  The French Language among schools is  gaining momentum  gradually and this has to been attributed to ” Njogera Francais ” a program spearheaded by Alliance  Francaise Kampala (AFK).

On Friday, March 7 , participants from various schools were awarded with certificates and the best candidates in the various levels  were recognized for their  excellence in their  Diplome d’Etudes en Langue Francaise  (DELF) exams both for primary and secondary.

While speaking at the awarding Ceremony , Eric Touze,  director AFK said that Njogera Francais is  an event for schools part of the Francophone month and they shall have other activities as well .

Mr. Karim Cwinya’ay , Project Manager, Njogera  Francais noted that it is the  edition and their aim is to  promote DELF in primary and secondary which is life -time  international  certification that one has attained a certain level in the  language proficiency.

” This program comes at a time when global  language proficiency is very important and we are offering them the necessary support in regards to making this possible. We thank all partners and most importantly the head teachers of the schools, teachers, students , administration and our role is to have activities that make learning of french adorable and simple”.  Said Karim.

He also explained that there has been an increase in the number of students growing steadily ever since the inception of the program in 2022 which  was not the case because the awards have been a motivation.

Olabo  Calvin,  Vice President , Association of  teachers  of French in Uganda , APFO extended their thanks and previledge for   being stakeholders in the competition which has been able to open up doors for very many and also called upon the rest to get  on board so that they can grow and improve this.

John Hillary Balyejusa,  Public Relations Officer, Lapaire one of the partners , re affirmed their involvement because it mainly focuses on  students and they recognize the presence of optical health to academic excellence.

 “We are breaking the stereotype among optical health  so that they  achieve  more. We are here to make sure that their sight is being cared for and with this we are having many branches so that we can reach out to the audience. The French language is very important and this one of the reasons we are on”  Added Balyejusa.

Daphny  Tukahirwa,  Director  Karveli, expressed their gratitude and honor for being partners of the program.

She stressed that they have been  here for over 8 years, worked with French chefs  and  their business is very passionate about the French language due t byo the global dynamics prevailing.

She  also urged the students to take languages very important  and  recalled a situation when she missed going to France to pursue further education in hospitality because she did not know the language .

The best students were awarded with tablets and other materials,  schools  received computers, certificates and many other assortments of branded materials from the project and  some shall be eligible for a Scholarships in Egypt.

Relatedly, ever since the Njogera Francais was initiated, it has created the motivation for learning of the language in schools  and this has been seen by the increase in the numbers growing exponentially from the advent of COVID in 2020 with 32 students,  2021 with  312 students , 2022 with 931 students , 2023 with 1098 Students and in 2024 with 1153 in DELF at the AFK.

The third edition of Njogera Francais was powered by Karveli Restaurant, Lapaire , CFAO Motor, Embassy of France in Uganda, SOGEA SATOM and Total Energies EP Uganda
